Up: Porous Media Characterisation

Modelling has been performed on extended structures of varying sized cylindrical voids, on arrays of touching solid spheres and on arrays of spherical voids, as well as intersecting spherical voids. (Slits have still to be studied). Regular arrays of pores have been considered, as well as pores with statistical variation of pore diameter and pore spacing.

These model pore structures have been analysed by both analytic techniques, and by Monte-Carlo integration, giving estimates of both the bulk properties and the calculated solid-solid density radial distribution function. These predicted results have been compared with measued properties for sol-gel silicas. Many other important materials await study by this powerful technique, including porous carbons and clays.
